Mahler's Fourth Symphony and a tribute form the perfect setting for Zimmermann's rousing Violin Concerto. Simone Lamsma is the perfect soloist.

Tribute to Bernd Alois Zimmermann
The German composer Bernd Alois Zimmermann died fifty years ago. His important pluralistic sound compositions' in which the influence of the post-war avant-garde and the currents of earlier times converge with jazz influences are increasingly threatening to disappear from the concert stage. That is why the ZaterdagMatinee is giving Zimmermann a lot of attention during this anniversary season and commissioned Robin de Raaff to write a tribute to the German master. In Sfera, De Raaff allows Zimmermann's many spheres of influence to travel through the orchestra.

Simone Lamsma and Mahler IV
Zimmermann himself is represented with his jazzy Violin Concerto, which in the hands of Simone Lamsma will sound as lyrical as it is exhilarating. However, particularly in the orchestra, Mahler's hand is also perceptible. His Fourth Symphony is a strong exclamation mark in this tribute to a composer who already felt in the sixties that the avant-garde needed more melody, more recognition. A rediscovery of the path he chose.
