The Netherlands Radio Choir and mezzo-soprano Maria Prudenskaya sing Sergei Prokofiev's historical drama Alexander Nievsky. The Finnish top conductor Hannu Lintu leads the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

Sergei Prokofiev regularly worked as a composer for films. In Alexander Nievsky, moreover, the music was an integral part of the events on screen. The piece tells about the life of Alexander, Prince of Novgorod. A thirteenth century statesman and warrior, who kept the then Russia afloat against all kinds of enemies. Battles on a frozen lake, crusades - Prokofiev brings them to life with his music.

NetherlandsRadio Choir in Alexander Nievsky
Following the immense success of the film, Prokofiev also wrote a cantata version of Alexander Nievsky. The Netherlands Radio Choir and mezzo-soprano Maria Prudenskaya sing of the prince's heroic deeds. The Teutonic invasion is full of drama and they call on the Russian people to be strong. The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Hannu Lintu. This Finnishman also conducts a work by his compatriot Sibelius with the Netherlands Radio Choir. The symphonic poem Night Ride and Sunrise invites you to a spiritual walk through nature.
