Handel's judgement on Solomon
Georg Friedrich Handel
In this concert, the AVROTROS Friday Concert continues its long-standing tradition of performances of oratorios by Georg Friedrich Handel. Now with the famous and colourful Solomon. In it, Händel set to music part of the life of the Biblical King Solomon. Solomon was the son of King David and builder of the first Jewish temple in Jerusalem. But above all, he was the wise king, known for his judgement of Solomon. One of the protagonists is the Queen of Sheba, a southern Arabian principality. The most delightful moment is the 'Arrival of the Queen of Sheba', with music so ravishing that you wish Handel would make her last metres last forever.
