Leo Janá?ek wrote the impressive symphonic poem about the Ukrainian freedom hero Taras Bulba against the background of the First World War. Like many other Moravians and Bohemians, he looked forward to the establishment of his own Czech state in 1918. Taras Bulba is full of that longing. When composing his Violin Concerto, Igor Stravinsky did not allow himself to be led by the well-known examples of Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms, but looked back to Bach's Concert for two violins. This can be heard in the duet between the soloist and a violinist from the orchestra. The soloist is a familiar guest at the Friday concert: Liza Ferschtman.
