Easter concert with Bruckner and Pärt

Programme

  • Arvo Pärt Te Deum
  • Anton Bruckner Te Deum

Te Deum
In this Easter concert, the Netherlands Radio Choir sings two of the most beautiful choral works with the theme 'We praise Thee, O God'. That is the meaning of Te Deum, the biblical hymn that inspired so many composers. Today, Russian conductor Vasily Petrenko will lead the Groot Omroepkoor and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra in compositions on this hymn by Anton Bruckner and Arvo Pärt.

Bruckner and Pärt
Anton Bruckner was an extremely devout Catholic, who stood behind every word he expressed in Te Deum. This choral work had a meditative and above all jubilant character. When Mahler once conducted it, he noted the following line-up: 'Angels' tongues, God seekers, tormented hearts and souls purified by fire! The Groot Omroepkoor also sings Arvo Pärt's Te Deum. In this mystical and thoughtful work, the melodies unfold at a slow pace.
