The Great Broadcasting Choir together on stage with the greatest living composer of vocal music. It sounds like a dream to many fans. In TivoliVredenburg, it is a reality: Eric Whitacre will stand before the choir and perform his own work. He also brings with him harpist Lavinia Meijer. With her harp playing, she turned The Seal Lullaby into a poignant ode to the ocean.
Eric Whitacre has been among the most highly regarded and in-demand vocal composers of our time since the last decade of the 20th century. His 1992 Cloudburst hit like a bomb at the time. And since then his oeuvre has only expanded with works such as Sleep, The Sacred Veil and Lux Aurumque. Time and again, he manages to combine modern sounds and effects with music that lingers long after you have heard it.
Eric Whitacre shares the stage with Lavinia Meijer. The Dutch harpist single-handedly changed the image of the instrument by thinking completely out of the box. Through collaborations with Carel Kraaijenhof, Philip Glass and Ludovico Einaudi, among others, she turned the harp into a hip instrument and even ranked high in the Dutch Album Top 100 for a long time.
