Martin Wright
An Idaho native, Martin Wright studied at Brigham Young University and the University of Arizona. After a stint with the Arizona Opera, he was chorus director at the San Diego Opera from 1984 to 1997, singing more than 30 operatic roles. From 1993 to 2002, he was chief conductor of the Groot Omroepkoor and conducted the Prinsengracht Concert three times. Wright was first guest conductor of the Lyric Opera San Diego and guest conductor with the Nevada Opera, the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the radio choirs of BR, WDR and NDR.
Between 2006 and 2012, he was choral director of the Netherlands Opera, where his work with the chorus was acclaimed, with productions including Messiaen's Saint François d'Assise and Rimsky-Korsakov's The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh. He is honorary conductor of the Shanghai Opera House Choir. Since 2013, he has been choral conductor of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where he rehearses the choral parts for a wide repertoire, including Wagner's Parsifal and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Verdi's Rigoletto, and Cherubini's Medea.
Wright has also conducted concerts such as Debussy's Le Martyre de Saint Sebastien, Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky, Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, and Britten's War Requiem.
