Michael Gläser

Permanent guest conductor

Michael Gläser, born in Chemnitz, was a member of the choir at the Thomasschule in Leipzig from 1967 to 1978. His musical career was dominated by singing and choral conducting from an early age. He subsequently studied singing and conducting in Leipzig and Berlin. He was active as a choirmaster, among others with the choir of the Leipzig University, the Leipzig Gewandhauschor, the Berliner Singakademie and the Rundfunkchor Leipzig.

Bavarian Broadcasting

In 1986, Michael Gläser became assistant director at the Rundfunkchor Berlin. Then from 1990 to 2005 he was artistic director of the choir of the Bavarian Radio. His main task was to prepare the choir for joint performances with both orchestras of the Bavarian Radio. In addition, he has presented the choir in its own subscription series at the Prinzregentheater since 1998. Michael Gläser has been successful with performances of works by Bach, Reger and Rachmaninov, among others.

Professor of choral conducting

Since 1994 he has been Professor of Choral Conducting at the Musikhochschule in Munich. Here he also directs the department of Evangelische Kirchenmusik. He is also a regular guest conductor with renowned choirs in Germany and other European countries. Since 2005, Michael Gläser has been a regular guest conductor with the Groot Omroepkoor. In March 2008 he made his debut with the Choeur de Radio France, where he studied Mendelssohn's Elias for performances with Kurt Masur.

Michael Gläser has been permanent guest conductor of the Groot Omroepkoor since the 2010-2011 season. In June 2011, Michael Gläser was, alongside Jos van Veldhoven, a teacher in the biennial Eric Ericson Masterclass in Haarlem.
