Sander Teepen

Starting with the 2018-2019 season, Sander Teepen is joining the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra as assistant conductor. As such, he will spend ten weeks per season with the orchestra.

From oboist to conductor
Sander Teepen, born in Deurne (1981), started playing the oboe at the age of 8. He studied at the Fontys Conservatory with Herman Vincken. As an oboist, he substituted with the Residentie Orkest, Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Het Gelders Orkest, Het Brabants Orkest and the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, among others. He is also associated with the Anemos Arts Ensemble, consisting of musicians from Philharmonie Zuidnederland.

Soon Sander was captivated by conducting. He took conducting lessons with Jan Stulen, Otto Tausk and Jac van Steen, among others. He took conducting master classes with Jorma Panula, Paavo Jarvi, Neeme Jarvi and Leonid Grin.

Awards
Sander participated in several conducting competitions. In 2012 he won the conducting competition at the MAV Symphonic Orchestra in Budapest, in 2013 the jury prize at the Blue Danube Opera conducting competition, in 2014 the "George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra Prize" at the Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest conducting competition, and in 2015 he placed second at the Blue Danube Opera conducting competition. This led to several invitations at home and abroad. For example, he conducted opera houses in Ostrava and Stara Zagora and was a guest conductor with the Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra in Iași and the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra in Timișoara. In 2017 he made his successful debut as a conductor with the Residentie Orkest, the Metropole Orkest, Het Gelders Orkest and the Noord Nederlands Orkest.

2018 will see his debut with Philharmonie Zuidnederland, the Nederlandse Reisopera(Der fliegende Holländer) and a continuation of his guest conducting with the Residentie Orkest, the Moldova Philharmonic Orchestra, the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra and the opera house Divadlo Antonina Dvoraka Ostrava(Lady MacBeth of Mtsensk).
