Benjamin Goodson and the Groot Omroepkoor extend their collaboration
The Groot Omroepkoor and chief conductor Benjamin Goodson have extended their successful collaboration. Goodson, who has been principal conductor of the Groot Omroepkoor since the autumn of 2020, is thus committed to the choir until 2027.
There was a unique chemistry between Benjamin Goodson and the Groot Omroepkoor right at the start of their collaboration. This resulted in special performances of Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Mass in C minor, the world premiere of MacMillan's Christmas Oratorio and the development of the new GOK format The Living Room in TivoliVredenburg. All these productions were full of vocal quality and enthusiasm. Considering the corona problems of the last period, this achievement can be called remarkable. All the more reason to extend the cooperation by another four years.
"I am delighted to renew my chief conductorship of the Great Broadcasting Choir," said Benjamin Goodson. "During my first years during the Corona pandemic, the choir demonstrated great skill and determination to continue to grow and deliver top performance under the most challenging circumstances. Since then, we have been on an inspiring journey together with our esteemed broadcasting partners. While continuing to honour our heritage in the much-loved concerts at the Concertgebouw and TivoliVredenburg, we also developed new ways to surprise our audiences and challenge their perception of what a professional choir is and does. More than ever, I am proud to be at the helm of this exciting, open, dynamic choral ensemble".
Roland Kieft, general director of Stichting Omroep Muziek: "I am extremely pleased with the renewal of Benjamin Goodson's contract. Since his appointment in 2020, the Groot Omroepkoor has undergone an enormous development. Traditionally strong in the high Romantic and modern repertoire, the Groot Omroepkoor is also showing authority in the early repertoire, from Baroque to early Romantic. I would also like to congratulate our partners NTR, AVROTROS and NPO Radio 4 on this wonderful news. With these new agreements, the Groot Omroepkoor is committed until 2027 to the most talented young choral conductor of the moment."
Benjamin Goodson will continue his work with the Groot Omroepkoor in collaboration with Karina Canellakis, principal conductor of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
