Edo de Waarts Ring des Nibelungen

Edo de Waart conducted the four movements of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for the Saturday Matinee in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Matinee and Evening Concert/NTR Operalive broadcast the entire cycle on NPO Radio 4 on four consecutive Saturdays in July 2021.

Der Ring des Nibelungen consists of one eve(Das Rheingold) and four days(Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung) and tells the story of the ring of power cursed by the Nibelung Alberich, which leads to a power struggle with supreme god Wotan in which their respective children and grandchildren Hagen, Brünnhilde, Siegmund and Siegfried also become embroiled.

Edo de Waart and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Groot Omroepkoor thus performed the first Ring from after the war and provided an unforgettable experience. Listen back to the entire cycle here.
