Private: Mitchell Sandler
Bass Mitchell Sandler studied at the University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated in 1986. He continued his studies in baroque solo singing and opera at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. His teachers were Herman Woltman and Marius van Altena. He completed his conservatoire training in 1991.
Mitchell Sandler sang in Ensemble Chanticleer, with whom he made many recordings. He has also done freelance work in operas and oratorios with the Netherlands Opera, among others. Since 2002 Mitchell has been working with the Groot Omroepkoor. He also sings in the Nederlands Kamerkoor, Pocket Opera (www.pocketopera.nl) and Contrasto Armonico.
Besides being a singer, Mitchell is also a composer and arranger. His 'Madrigals of Mirth and Melancholy' were sung by the choir 'Trajecti Voces' in 2013. A new commission for the Utrecht women's choir 'Medusa' premiered February 2014.
His solo CDs are 'Aci, Galatea e Polifemo' by G.F. Handel, in the role of Polifemo, 'La Resurrezione, as Lucifero, with Contrasto Armonico conducted by Marco Vitale, and 'Dolci Sospiri', songs, duets and dance music by Falconieri with the ensemble 'La Primavera'.
A new CD of Handel's solo cantatas for the bass voice is expected in June 2015.
